Why we’re embracing our new takeaway life

January 2021 already. At this time of year we’d normally be catching our breath after Christmas and New Year, traditionally our busiest times. We’d be winding down a bit over January and the first part of February, then gearing up for Valentine’s Day and mother’s day. We also normally run a promotion in March (our March madness discounts) to kick start the summer season. We’d also be looking ahead to April and May and deciding when to start running our ever-popular classic car evenings again.

We can hardly believe that we’re still in lockdown almost a year later, and that life still hasn’t returned to normal. Last year held so many ups and downs, it seems like we’d just got geared up to do something when the rules changed again. Each time, though, we’ve picked ourselves up and started again with the new rules. We took advantage of the first lockdown back in April 2020 to have a major revamp on our dining areas and function rooms, and were able to open for outside dining again over the summer.

Our latest incarnation is as ‘The Swettenham Arms cafe’! We’re taking advantage of being on several popular walking and cycling routes by offering delicious homecooked food to takeaway. The initiative has been really popular, and we’ve expanding from offering simple lunch and brunch options to offering a full chef’s menu including evening takeaway (all details on our food page). One aspect we’ve been enjoying is that our chefs have had the chance to have a bit of fun and make some of their own favourite foods and specialities. Head chef Bonnie has been creating his delicious doughnuts, and there’s fresh cake and pastries on offer every day. Life has taken on a quieter pace, but many of our regulars are still taking the trouble to support us and we really appreciate it. Here’s to a return to normality in 2021 and hope to see you all again soon.
