It’s autumn, possibly our favourite time of year! Yes, we love summer too and we’re set up for it with our stunning lavender meadow and three beer gardens – but when there’s a chill in the air we love to retreat indoors and light the log fires.
Although the Quinta Lovell Arboretum behind the pub is beautiful at any time of year, in the autumn it really comes into its own. The leaves are on the turn and starting to form a golden carpet down the avenues, and there are bright splashes of colour in the shape of rosehip and hawthorn berries hiding in every hedgerow. The last of the sloes and blackberries are weighing the branches down, and the views across the Dane Valley are really opening up as the trees lose their leaves.
On a perfect, slightly chilly, clear autumn day, what could be nicer than an hour in the arboretum, or a longer walk across the Dane Valley to Brereton Country Park, followed by a roast lunch or a hot cup of coffee? We’re a dog friendly venue, too, so your canine companions are more than welcome in either of our stoneflagged bar areas where there are fires. We’ve got a great selection of real ale, as well – even more appealing if the weather isn’t quite so nice – and a wide range of non-alcoholic drinks too.
If you haven’t yet been to visit us this season, now’s the time. Take a look at our food page to see what’s on the menu, and remember it’s best to book ahead at busy times such as weekends. We look forward to welcoming you to the Swettenham Arms this autumn.
