Ghost Vigil
Reported Ghost at The Swettenham Arms!
It has been reported that The Swettenham Arms in the village of Swettenham, Cheshire has a resident ghost. On 15th November 2005 a customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, was enjoying a meal at the establishment. During the meal, a ghostly apparition appeared at the fireplace in the main restaurant.

The ghost was reported as being a young lady named Sarah, who said she was 35 years old. She had black hair, was of sad appearance and seemed to be floating on stairs. The customer was quite agitated at this and had to leave the pub very quickly, her husband wondering what had happened to cause the upset. The customer subsequently went to see the local vicar, Chris Kemp for reassurance. The vicar informed her that he had seen ghosts in his lifetime and advised her to contact, Mrs Frances Cunningham, Proprietor of The Swettenham Arms for any further information and assistance.
This may not be too surprising due to the inn being steeped in local history; it reportedly dates back to the 16th century and the village church is approximately 700 years old. The inn was once a former nunnery and was used as a resting place for weary funeral parties. It was the custom for funeral parties to stay overnight at the nunnery and the coffin was then taken to the church via an underground tunnel, which linked the nunnery to the church, the following day.
The Congleton Paranormal Society has since contacted us to arrange an investigation and vigil at The Swettenham Arms which was conducted during the night in January 2006. The findings of which were published in the local press.
The village of Swettenham is also said to have its own ghost, which is reportedly a nun. Sightings have in the past been seen between the rectory and the church.
