After what seems like months and months of rain, it looks like we’re finally set to see some sun over the next few days. Behind the pub, the arboretum is coming to life with the daffodils well under way, the pussy willow buds forming and the bluebells already pushing their leaves through the ground ready for next month.
If it feels like forever since you’ve left the house, it could finally be time to get back outside again. Walking, cycling, running and horse riding are all excellent forms of exercise, and at the Swettenham Arms we’re lucky enough to be ideally placed for all of them!
Cycling – National Cycle Route 71 runs right past our door, and you can follow it for miles right through to Middlewich where it connects with route 5. We’re also very close to route 573 which connects Northwich to Congleton. Depending on your weight and general fitness, even cycling gently for an hour will burn around 250 to 300 calories. (Should we mention at this point that a pint of beer only contains around 210 calories? Ahem.)
Walking – we have a network on footpaths on our doorstep, and easy access to Quinta Lovell Arboretum, Swettenham Meadows and Brereton Country Park. Walking at a moderate pace for an hour burns around 240 calories, while walking briskly burns around 270.
Running – while some of the footpaths across fields may be soggy at times, the hard footpaths to Brereton are ideal for running in all weathers. Running even at a moderate pace will burn an impressive 480 calories an hour.
Horse riding – with bridlepaths to the side and back of the pub, we’re ideally placed for riders. We’ve also got a huge carpark and two beer gardens with seating if you’d like to jump off for a quick drink! Riding consumes around 350 calories an hour (riding trot) or 250 calories an hour walking.
Whatever you decide to do, why not make us part of your trip? We serve delicious food and drink every day from noon until 9.30pm (8.30pm on Sundays), and we welcome dogs and muddy boots in our bar area.
