Family Outings
The Quinta Aboretum
The Quinta Arboretum Wildlife and Nature Reserve was the lifelong project of Sir Bernard Lovell. The Arboretum offers wonderful walks amongst beautiful trees and extends for around 30 acres, accessible through our picnic area at the side of the pub.

The perfect place for children to let their imaginations run free; natural country surroundings with wide open spaces. There are wooded areas, ponds and a lake for all the family to enjoy, as well as 5000 species of trees and a variety of wild animals including rare butterflies, hares, squirrels and rabbits.

And after a healthy walk in the peaceful Arboretum why not treat yourselves to hearty home-cooked food. We are a family friendly pub and children are always welcome.

We ask that all visitors to the Arboretum keep dogs on leads and generally respect the area. Visitors will find an honesty box at the gate and are asked to pay a contribution of £2.50 which helps towards the upkeep of the area and protection of the wildlife. The Arboretum is managed today by the Tatton Garden Society.

Dane Valley Walks
The Dane Valley, an area designated as of special scientific interest (SSSI) is one of the hidden gems of the Congleton area. The River Dane was acknowledged in l994 under the Wildlife & Countryside Act l98l as a SSSI site notified for its fluvial geomorphology cutting a course though the soft sand and gravels of the Cheshire Plain over many thousands of years to create a scenic wooded valley.

This is rich dairy country, with prime grazing for the county’s famous cattle.

Swettenham Meadows above the brook are full of wildflowers all summer long, and today are managed as a nature reserve by Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
