Did you know that January 21st is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year? In fact, it’s been nicknamed ‘Blue Monday’ as it coincides with the end of the Christmas period and the time when most of us are feeling the squeeze on our budgets. Days are short, the weather’s normally pretty miserable and many of us have already put our New Year’s resolutions to one side.
If you’re feeling down, though, there’s plenty you can do to cheer yourself up. Even if the weather’s less than enticing, getting out into the fresh air can prove a real boost. Even gentle exercise such as walking helps to release endorphins, the ‘happy hormone’, and can help to lift your mood. If you walk out of the pub carpark and turn right down the lane, you can walk along the bridleway past Davenport Hall to the end of the road. Cross over the main road and continue straight across until you come to Brereton Country Park. If you then walk round the park and retrace your steps back to the pub, it will take around an hour to an hour and a half and all the paths have a hard surface that’s suitable for any weather. You’ve also got the option of the Quinta Lovell Arboretum behind the pub – while most of the paths are grassy, they’re generally quite dry in all but the wettest weather. There’s a small entry charge for the Arboretum which goes towards the upkeep of the grounds, but it’s still a great value day out!
When you’ve finished, come into the pub and warm up by our real log fires. Wet dogs and boots are welcome in our stone flagged bar areas, and we’ve got a variety of real ales available. And if you’re in the mood for a bargain this January, then we’ve currently got our winter sale on until the end of February, with 50 per cent off our full menu – just take a look at our Offers page for the full details.
