Remember, remember the fifth of November…..well, here at the Swettenham Arms, we always do! Our bonfire night party is one of the highlights of the local calendar, and attracts people from miles around. We’re planning a great night of fireworks, a huge bonfire, music, an outdoor BBQ and much, much more. All bars will be open serving our home-made mulled wine, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, ales and wines. There will be novelties, cinder toffee, parkin cake and treacle toffee/toffee apples for sale.
Everyone always admires the flowers here on the front and back of the building as well as the lovely grounds and arboretum from spring to autumn. This year, we’ve pruned our 4,000 lavender bushes from the field behind the pub. This is always a huge job and takes one to two weeks of hard labour! Our brilliant gardeners put so much time and trouble into making sure our grounds always look great, but this year they have suffered and have been off with bad backs. We’re making the most of all their hard work, though – we’ve gathered up all the lavender cuttings, and they’re going on the fire on 5th November which will make it smell very fragrant.
Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us, but there’s plenty of room to take refuge in the Lovell Suite and under awnings.
We open the doors at 5.30 pm, the bonfire is lit at 6.00 pm. The B.B.Q. will be ready from 5.30 pm and bars open then as well. Live music will be played during the evening outside, depending on the weather. The fireworks will be let off between 7.30 and 8.00 pm. Tickets are £4.00 per person on the night. There’s no need to pre-book, just turn up on the night and have fun! We look forward to seeing you there.
