With our huge car park and idyllic rural location, we’re a popular venue for classic car enthusiasts. Not only do we hold our own events for owners of cherished cars every Tuesday evening during the summer, but we’re also a destination for various classic car clubs.
A couple of weeks ago, we were honoured with a visit from the Aston Martin Owners’ Club and our car park was graced with over 100 cars, Astons and others. It was a stunning sight, but unfortunately Swettenham Arms owner Fran Cunningham was so overcome that she accidentally reversed into a classic wrapped racing Aston Martin car! Can you imagine anything worse? Talk about mortified. Fran’s car only sustained a dent in the bumper, but the damage to the Aston was a little more expensive! Of all the cars to bump into, this was the prized one on the car park. The owner, though, couldn’t have been more charming, and said, “Don’t worry, dear, it’s only money.” He was really so understanding and not at all cross. We’re not sure if Fran will ever live it down, though!
If you haven’t attended one of our Classic Car Evenings yet, they’re held every Tuesday evening from 7pm and there’s a free hotdog for every driver and guest between 7pm and 7.30pm. They start in May, and normally carry on until the end of September. They are a bit weather dependent though (no-one wants to bring their cherished car out in the pouring rain!) so if you’re coming to see us specially then it’s best to bear that in mind. Our evenings – which include classic motorbikes on a Thursday and classic tractors on a Wednesday – carry on until around the end of September, and are well worth a visit.
