April 1st to May 5th is National Pet Month, an event held every year with four main aims:
- to promote responsible pet ownership
- to raise awareness of the benefits of pets for people and people for pets
- to help raise the profile of services available from professionals who work with animals
- to promote the role, value and contribution to society of working companion animals
In addition to all this, National Pet Month also helps raise thousands of pounds for pet charities all over the UK. Now in its 25th year, the theme for 2014 is ‘celebrating our pets’, and you can join in with events being held across the country.
Here at the Swettenham Arms, the network of quiet lanes and footpaths surrounding the pub are a dog walker’s paradise. You can choose from a long, energetic walk along the Dane Valley, a quiet stroll on level footpaths through the Davenport estate to Brereton Country Park or a gentle walk through the Quinta Arboretum, right next door to the pub.
You could also make up your own route from the many paths and rights of way in the area, so why not celebrate National Pet Month by spending the day exploring the local countryside with your dog? Don’t forget to bring him or her into into the Swettenham Arms to meet us and to grab a quick bacon roll before you start your walk, or come and join us for lunch or dinner. We’re a fully dog-friendly location, and have a stone flagged bar area suitable for muddy paws. If you send us a photo of your dog enjoying our hospitality, and he or she could even be our Dog of the Week.
